Very deep color. Woodsmoke, cherry, cassis scents that are totally inviting. Super smooth tannins, loads of fruit that continue through the elegant finish. Outstanding! Aging beautifully

Dark ruby, bright, fat tears. Fine nose with black currant, black truffle and smoked liquorice. Medium to plump body, rather soft, intense dark fruit, liquorice, low acidity, soft tannins. Soft finish with nice tannins and rather low acidity. Good match with roasted beef filet. For some unknown reason I ignored my knowledge that it is better to not decant this wine and did it anyway - result: Nice wine but not great.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 93.
Not blind. Shortly decanted before drinking. Small ISO standard tasting glass.

This was Wine Spectator's wine of the year in 1990 (or maybe 1991). It's easy to see why.... The 1989 Lynch Bages is drinking beautifully now but still has 20 years ahead of it. After decanting for two hours aromas of asphalt, chocolate and bing cherry soared from the glass. Well integrated flavors of tobacco, licorice, red raspberry, cocoa and cedar are well integrated over silky tannins. Just pour it and look at the dark, almost black ruby color. That will give you an idea of what to expect.

I admit it, one of my personal favorites. Deep extraction and dark purple color. Strong Cassis in the nose, and massive body. Worth setting the stage for a meal of Young Lamb to set it off.

Gets a bit flat in the glass after some time. Score: 50 + 5 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 93.

(not blind): Brilliant black ruby, light rim, dense tears. Dark fruit and liquorice in the nose, sweet and fine. Full to medium body, dark fruit, liquorice and elderberry, acidity and tannins well balanced. Fruity velvety aftertaste, long. Very fine classic Pauillac. Score: 50 + 5 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 95.
