After trying this wine two months ago at a tasting, I had pretty high expectations because I liked it more than 90% of the other Aussies we tasted that night. I opened the bottle and determined it needed a decant; the tannins were high and the juice was a little tight. After about 30 minutes, I poured a glass and determined that I liked it; the nose was rosy ripe fruits. Black fruits dominated the first glass, which were almost overripe, as many 'cheap' Aussies are, but pleasant nonetheless. By the second and third glasses, the tannins subsided and revealed a truly drinkable medium-bodied wine; I now could taste smoky plums, cherries, oak and tobacco - the aroma was delicious. I don't know much about aging mid-grade Australian Shiraz, but I imagine this one will do pretty well within five years.
