I've had the good fortune to taste both the 2000 and 2001 Turley Hayne Petite Syrah on a number of occasions, both on their own and in head-to-head comparison. While both a truly amazing, I'd give the edge to the 2000. The 2000 just seems to have more earth to it. This is a deep, dark, pool of inky blue-black richness. Truly this wine stands out in terms of extraction. The flavors are that of cassis and blackberries. This wine paired with Squab or Duck, will make for a very memorable experience. I usually recommend a 60-minute decant for this wine.
