RATED: 06/09/2004
COMMENTS: Deep ruby color with little sign of age. Still looked youthful and vibrant.

The wine was still displaying remarkable fruit and deep color, and the tannins while still quite evident were well under control and quite silky. The wine was going gangbusters right out of the bottle and never gave any indication of doing otherwise over the next two hours. Gorgeous nose of lead pencil, stewed plum, amazing complexity and depth. I could smell this wine for the next 20 years and be happy!

It's hard to find anything wrong with this wine. It's just entering it's adulthood so drink now or hold for another 20 years.

COMMENTS: Sampled 2/14/82. I've had this excellent 2nd Growth wine at least once in each of the past four years and it has been wonderfully consistent. Spice with silky Merlot washing through and around the fruity Cab Franc, both of which offset and balance the powerful Cab Sauv. This wine is elegant and big at the same time. I was never convinced it was a 100 point wine, but I could never give it a 98 point rating either. This time, wine only took about 15 to 20 minutes to open up which is about 30 minutes less than it took 4 years ago, but it did not drop off at any point during the dinner. At this rate, the wine should be nearing it's peak in about 4 to 6 years.
