1996 Chartogne-Taillet - Tete de Cuvee Fiacre
(France / Champagne)
RATED: 01/01/2005
COLOR: Straw Yellow.
AROMA: Hazelnut. Bread. Yeast.
FLAVOR: Vanilla. Pear. Lychee. Toast. Yeast. Cream. Peach. Overripe Tangerine.
PROFILE: Balanced. Complex. Effervescent Mouthfeel. Voluminous Body. Long Finish.
COMMENTS: Rich and biscuity on the nose. Mature citrus up front on the palate, yeast and bread through the middle, and creamy vanilla on the finish. A serious, full bodied, heavy duty champagne without overdoing it on the yeastiness. Amazingly balanced. One of the best champagnes I've ever tasted. Ever.

P.S. - Chartogne-Taillet disgorges their Tete de Cuvee just prior to shipping. The last time I tasted it (12/31/04) the bottle had been disgorged January, 2004.
