COMMENTS: I generally think Silver Oak is a bit expensive. The 1999 Alexander Valley Cab is, however, an excellent wine. The boquet is the wine's finest attibute with big aromas of nutmug and hazelnut. In the mouth, heavy tannins are balanced by sweet licorice and chocolate. The finish is surprsiningly abrupt for a high priced Napa Cab.

COMMENTS: I wish I were more excited about the classic flavor and solid character of most Silver Oak wines; this one included. I have tasted this vintage on several occasions and, while it's an admirable glass, there are so many other ways I could spend $60. From the nose to the close, prevailing flavors & aromas include the American oak, cooked fruit and fresh berries that pairs well with just about any cut of meat you can find. I think I'll discover that the longer I wait before consuming this wine again, the better I'll feel about it next time. I suppose I'm just being picky.
