2001 Chateau Margaux
(France / Bordeaux / Margaux)
ALCOHOL: 13.0%
RATED: 06/20/2009
COLOR: Ruby.
AROMA: Licorice. Coffee. Sweet. Dark Fruits.
FLAVOR: Licorice. Coffee. Toast. Oak. Dark Fruits.
PROFILE: Crisp Acidity. Complex. Smooth Mouthfeel. Medium Body. Moderate Tannin. Long Finish.
COMMENTS: Very good, evolving nose. Started with candy, licorice, iodine / rust and some spiciness to it. Flavors of dark, deep red fruits (berry), with a tinge of deep cherry. Evolved to espresso, dried flowers. Very elegant structure, with a smooth entry and a non-overpowering but deep and long finish. Very soft velvety tannins. A great elegant wine. It just kept evolving, that after we finished the bottle, I found myself still sniffing the aromas left from the bottle (making me look like a coke addict). It's amusing that I had this a day after the Pegau. If the Pegau was a musky brute force, this was a perfumed sophisticated lady... :?
