COMMENTS: I had high hopes for this producer but neither the pinot noir nor the syrah lived up to the expectation. It was unbalanced and too manipulated.

2002 Failla Pinot Noir
(USA / California / Sonoma / Sonoma Coast)
ALCOHOL: 14.4%
CASES: 175
RATED: 09/22/2004
COLOR: Red Purple.
AROMA: Barnyard. Earthy. Alcohol. Wet.
FLAVOR: Earthy. Red Fruits. Mustiness.
PROFILE: Crisp Acidity. Unbalanced. Medium Body. Moderate Tannin. Long Finish.
COMMENTS: Looks unfiltered with a touch brown-purple in color. A wet, barnyard nose with additional earthy and alcohol components. Quite luscious earthy red fruit. A long finish, but presents a mustiness that makes it rather disjointed.

Single blind at a 2002 California Pinot Noir tasting.
