COMMENTS: Aromas of cedar, chocolate, and plums are followed by a medium-full bodied wine with a flavor profile of dark fruits and cedar with hints of dark chocolate and coffee which extend across a medium finish that has subtle hints of cherries, vanilla and alcohol.

All in all an enjoyable Napa Cab; however, the wine lacks the depth and concentration of flavor along with mouthfeel to be outstanding.

AROMA: Alcohol. Dark Fruits.
FLAVOR: Alcohol. Oak. Dark Fruits.
PROFILE: Alcoholic Mouthfeel. Medium Body. Heavy Tannin. Medium Finish.
COMMENTS: The 2001 Cab from Whitehall Lane was a relative dissapointment. The nose and palate were overly hot. There were some deep fruits in the glass, but they were overshadowed by the alcohol. The wine also seemed quite hollow towards the finish.

COMMENTS: Sampled 5/29/04. This wine reminds me of the Whitehall Lane 1997 when it was young - an approachable, well-made fruit bomb that has nothing to hide. It probably won't get much better or worse over the next few years. If you're not a dessert wine person and want to just finish off the night with big fruit without getting too fancy, this is a good bottle to choose.

COMMENTS: When I realized we had this wine at the tasting, I was anxious because I've heard very polarized mixed reviews on this vintage. By the time we got to the WL, our steaks had arrived, which may have had something to do with it's flavors coming through so well. The nose was very pleasant, boasting cherry and plums, but the first sip blew me away. The smooth, almost velvety texture was supported by firm tannins, and lead to flavors of cooked red fruits, currant and sweet spices and a full-bodied fleshy finish that punctuated my filet very nicely. I actually poured myself a second glass of this wine when no one was looking. I feel that it's more of a 'drink now' wine than one to cellar, but it should age well for another 5 years or so.
