COMMENTS: This wine was the first of the three 2002 Diamond Creek wines that I tasted at the winery. A strikingly opaque red-purple color, this wine was phenomenal. Lots of smoke and spice both in the beginning and through the aftertaste. The first aroma almost gives the impression of a fortified wine, with a bit of brandy like alcohol smell. Tannins are heavy, but drastcially reduced from the 2001 offering. Definitely poised to be a spectacular wine.

COMMENTS: My favorite of the 2002 Diamond Creek wines. First and foremost, the Diamond Creek wines seem to be much more fruit-forward this year than last. A beautiful red-purple wine that is deeply extracted. This starts out with a strong, perfume filled nose of blueberry and cassis. In the mouth this wine explodes with ripe fruits, giving a slightly tingly sensation mid-palate. A long finish. In my opinion, better than the 2001, but probably won't age as well. Moderately tannic, but with some air time I like the way this wine is drinking right now.
