Inky dark purple. Concentrated and rich nose of cassis, blackberry, black cherry, black raspberry, blueberry, violet, green leaves, graphite, eucalyptus, mint, cedar, burnt toast, leather, anise, and chocolate. Full body. Semi-sweet to semi-dry. Medium tannins. Long finish. Black to the core. Decant for 1.5 hours or more. Needs some more time, but it's the best Shiraz I've had to date even at this young age.

Everything it was reputed to be and more. Black core, deep purple edges. Still grapy, and massive tannins matched by insane extracted fruit. The intriguing bouquet though, I think, is really going to expode in a few years. Everything a shiraz should be - plums, licorice, and spice, with some really bold aromas. A mint element that bounces between spearmint and euclyptus. A finish lengthy enough to be impossible. Crushed Raspberries and graphite make an appearance in the nose. Swirl this monster in your glass and it'll stain the sides of the glass red. Ridiculous!

I've been fortunate enough to taste this wine 4 times in early 2004. This is the kind of wine that makes me understand why Parker is such a fan of the Aussie Shiraz's. This is a dense dark pool of cassis, with smoldering oak and blackberries in the nose. I would recommend cellaring for 4 years or so, but if you must drink it now, and I can't blame you, it does benefit from a long 2+ hour decant time. The only other Deadarm I've tried was the 2000, and this blows that away! The only Shiraz I've had in recent memory that beast this would be the 01 Run Rig.
