2000 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande
(France / Bordeaux / Pauillac)
RATED: 12/01/2004
COMMENTS: Very dark purple, dense tears. Bit cool dark fruity nose, some oak. Plump body, powerful structure, slightly bitter tannins (from barrel?), prominent acidity, dark fruit, in the middle a bit empty. Intense and mouth impregnating finish. Clearly interesting wine now, ageing potential questionable.

Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 90.

Morwald/Ambassador 20041217. Double blind. Decanted shortly before tasting. Riedel Vinum Syrah glass.
This was a little teaser from our sommelier but we failed. While we could guess the vintage we covered a broad range of regions and varieties in vain: From Blaufrankisch/Austria or Barbera/Piedmont to Syrah/Rhone. We did not recognize the obvious, maybe it was too obvious?
