2002 Bogle Zinfandel - Old Vine
(USA / California)
ALCOHOL: 14.5%
RATED: 09/25/2004
COLOR: Brick Red.
AROMA: Earthy. Smoky. Limestone. Mineral. Woody. Dark Fruits.
FLAVOR: Blackberry. Chalk.
PROFILE: Bitter. Balanced. Smooth Mouthfeel. Lean Body. Short Finish.
COMMENTS: Bogle's 02 Zin is a pleasant and unexciting wine. The aroma is subtle with wood, fruit, and earth. On the palate, chalk dominates the front of the tongue with minerals and blackberries toward the back of the tongue. Although minerals are present throughout the taste, the wine does not dry out ones mouth. In fact, I found it surprisingly moist for a such an earthy wine. The finish is impotent. COLOR: Red Purple.
AROMA: Floral. Blueberry.
FLAVOR: Blueberry. Oak. Dark Fruits. Bubblegum.
PROFILE: Crisp Acidity. Astringent Mouthfeel. Medium Body. Light Tannin. Short Finish.
COMMENTS: Bogle has always impressed me with their wines. A sure bet for the money, this Old Vine Zin is only $9. I found the nose and taste to be very pleasing, with an interesting bubblegum aftertaste. This is a Zin that is not spicy, like many of its California cousins.

COLOR: Red Purple.
AROMA: Floral. Blueberry.
FLAVOR: Blueberry. Nutty.
PROFILE: Crisp Acidity. Medium Body. Light Tannin. Short Finish.
COMMENTS: I thought this was a really nice Zin for $9. Fruity and floral, there wasn't really any spice. Nice acidity to balance what would otherwise be an overly sweet wine. Nice bit of nuttiness on the aftertaste, definitely worth keeping a bottle around.
