2002 Adrian Fog Pinot Noir - Savoy Vineyard
(USA / California / Mendocino / Anderson Valley)
ALCOHOL: 14.5%
CASES: 300
RATED: 08/18/2004
COLOR: Red Purple.
AROMA: Barnyard. Olive. Stewed Fruit.
FLAVOR: Sweet. Red Fruits.
PROFILE: Crisp Acidity. Unbalanced. Viscous Mouthfeel. Rich Body. Medium Finish.
COMMENTS: Color is red-purple, but super cloudy and turbid. I don't mind unfiltered wines, but this looks ugly. The aromas were rather unpleasing, inclusive of stewed fruit, barnyard and olives. The taste, although better than the smell, was relatively uncomplex. To me, this seemed too much like juice. Acidity was there, but the juicy aspect really dominated. Tasted single blind at a 2002 California Pinot Noir challenge. The group overwhelmingly ranked this as the last place wine. When we learned who produced it and at what price, more than a few eyes rolled.
