2001 Bogle - Phantom
(USA / California)
ALCOHOL: 15.0%
CASES: 4,200
RATED: 10/10/2006
COLOR: Red Purple.
AROMA: Oak.
FLAVOR: Black Currant.
PROFILE: Tart. Complex. Astringent Mouthfeel. Medium Body. Moderate Tannin. Long Finish.
COMMENTS: Slightly intoxicating with oak aroma mix with alcohol initially, but upon tasting is not over-oaked like the 2003 vintage. Lingering and complex, the currant and blackberry, and HELLO! ever so slight vanilla(I love vanilla) flavors exhibited make for a delicious flavor, especially at just under $20.

2001 Bogle - Phantom
(USA / California)
ALCOHOL: 15.0%
CASES: 4,200
RATED: 08/20/2004
COLOR: Purple.
AROMA: Mint. Plum. Strawberry.
FLAVOR: Pepper. Plum. Asphalt.
PROFILE: Crisp Acidity. Unbalanced. Viscous Mouthfeel. Extracted Body. Heavy Tannin. Medium Finish.
COMMENTS: aromas of stawberry, plum and mint followed by flavors of plum, tar, and pepper. This blend of old vine zinfandel, petite syrah, and mourverdre is a delicious wine and a antastic value. Much more tannic than Bogle's regular offerings, this wine could improve with a few years in the cellar.

2001 Bogle - Phantom
(USA / California)
ALCOHOL: 15.0%
CASES: 4,200
RATED: 08/20/2004
COLOR: Purple.
AROMA: Licorice. Fig. Raisin. Plum. Strawberry. Cherry.
FLAVOR: Licorice. Plum.
PROFILE: Crisp Acidity. Unbalanced. Smooth Mouthfeel. Rich Body. Heavy Tannin. Medium Finish.
COMMENTS: When first opening this bottle, I could really smell the cherry and plum flavors, with hints of strawberry and fig. When we came back from dinner, the wine in my glass had really opened up and aromas and flavors of raisin and anise arose; the tannins were also softer. I think this wine is a good value, but don't drink yet if you don't like wine with strong tannins.
