2001 Louis Jadot - Clos de la Croix de Pierre
(France / Burgundy / Cote de Beaune / Pernand-Vergelesses)
RATED: 01/10/2006
COMMENTS: 2001 Louis Jadot Pernand-Vergelesses
Clos de la Croix de Pierre around $20.

I purchased this at a local small retailer for a bit above $20, so I am sure that a big discounter should be selling at or below our mark.

Pernand Vergelesses is thought of as one of the lesser Burgundy communes, thereforer it is often more reasonably priced. The Clos de la Croix de Pierre is a single vineyard, now wholly owned by jadot

Rich, warm, close to opaque, youthful garnet color (I so much want to call it burgundy colored), color more youthful than aroma which is heady with alcohol and funky earthy with cherry spikes.

In the mouth it is mildly hot with continued mushroom, dry leaves funkiness in flavor but noticeable sour cherry too. Tannins have just enough grip to balance acidity. Medium finish, could be longer.

This wine though young is ready to go now. I thought this wine would be youthful at this point (4 years) I can see in the near future acidity taking over this wine, but I think it is currently, and for the next year maybe two, a very drinkable example of what funky Burgundy (which is how I like it) can be.
