2003 E. Guigal - Cotes du Rhone
(France / Rhone / Southern Rhone / Cotes du Rhone)
RATED: 05/12/2009
COMMENTS: I got a lot more out of this than I expected, particularly given the age on it. Great value

good Guigal, with excellent palate - it just stays in your mouth. Unfortunately the graoes are not specified, but for sure it is Grenache, Syrah, probably Mourvedre, but what more?
We had twp bottles with Peter and Elli - good experience...

Excellent bottle, truly. Classic CDR profile. Good spice, smooth and rounded, tannins present, but not domineering. Much better than many similarly priced CDRs. By day 2, the fruit had dried up a bit (although the wine was still excellent), so I suggest opening and finishing at a sitting (or evening) unless of course you have one of those nitrogen systems (do they really work?). I would guess that this wine is at its peak now and will probably hold for a while. Really pleasantly surprising. (1988 views)
