1998 Quinta Do Crasto - Vinha Maria Teresa - Tinto
(Portugal / Douro )
Reviewed by:

(not blind, Magnum): Violet purple, opaque, fat tears, virtually stains the glass with extract. Dark berries, velvety. Full body, alcoholic, very concentrated dark fruit, smooth tannins, vivid acidity (without this wine would be considered fat), very well balanced, big amount of tartric sediment. Aftertaste intense dark fruit, velvety tannins, long. Score: 50 + 5 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 9 for overall = total score of 95.
A really impressive wine. Dinner with friends in the garden, BBQ-style food without looking for a match, stemware not really ideal for tasting especially concerning bouquet, no decanting, note from memory. My initial intention was to taste vintage 2001 but by mistake I bought a 1998 bottle and to some degree I feared this bottle would be closed – this was not the case in any way.
