2001 Whitehall Lane Cabernet Sauvignon

When I realized we had this wine at the tasting, I was anxious because I've heard very polarized mixed reviews on this vintage. By the time we got to the WL, our steaks had arrived, which may have had something to do with it's flavors coming through so well. The nose was very pleasant, boasting cherry and plums, but the first sip blew me away. The smooth, almost velvety texture was supported by firm tannins, and lead to flavors of cooked red fruits, currant and sweet spices and a full-bodied fleshy finish that punctuated my filet very nicely. I actually poured myself a second glass of this wine when no one was looking. I feel that it's more of a 'drink now' wine than one to cellar, but it should age well for another 5 years or so.
