1999 Martinelli Chardonnay - Charles Ranch Vineyard
($25)

We started out with this wine last Friday at a dinner party. I was skeptical because I'd never had a Martinelli Chard, and my guests were 'uninitiated.' We had this with a cheese course to open and the full, rich and spicy flavors complemented the meal very well. The nose was citrusy and sweet, like a viognier. I tasted several different, but well-developed flavors, such as allspice, oak and honey-peach on the midpalate, with granny smith apples and grapefruit on the finish. Clean and crisp, the finish lasted 20-30 seconds and I was very pleased, except for some sugar/sediment on the cork and in the neck. Not too sure about aging on white wines, I'd drink this one soon.
