2001 d'Arenberg Shiraz - The Dead Arm
(Australia / South Australia / McLaren Vale )

I've been fortunate enough to taste this wine 4 times in early 2004. This is the kind of wine that makes me understand why Parker is such a fan of the Aussie Shiraz's. This is a dense dark pool of cassis, with smoldering oak and blackberries in the nose. I would recommend cellaring for 4 years or so, but if you must drink it now, and I can't blame you, it does benefit from a long 2+ hour decant time. The only other Deadarm I've tried was the 2000, and this blows that away! The only Shiraz I've had in recent memory that beast this would be the 01 Run Rig.
