1982 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande
(France / Bordeaux / Pauillac )

Medium to dark reddish-purple, some bricking. Lovely complex nose of black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, meat, violet/lavender, chocolate, mint, undergrowth, virginal choirboy flesh, leather, charred oak, and licorice. Medium to full body. Semi-sweet to semi-dry. Soft tannins. Long finish. What can I say? It's a cerebral, intellectual experience, very soft and elegant. I think I'd have liked this to the tune of a 100 if I'd had it 5 years ago (a little more tannic grip would be ideal). I'm just glad I had an opporunity to sample this before its (and my!) lifetime was over.
