Color: Purple.
Aroma: Dark Fruits.
Flavor: Dark Fruits. Oak. Licorice. Blueberry. Smoky.
Profile: Balanced. Alcoholic Mouthfeel. Extracted Body. Heavy Tannin. Long Finish.
This wine was the first of the three 2002 Diamond Creek wines that I tasted at the winery. A strikingly opaque red-purple color, this wine was phenomenal. Lots of smoke and spice both in the beginning and through the aftertaste. The first aroma almost gives the impression of a fortified wine, with a bit of brandy like alcohol smell. Tannins are heavy, but drastcially reduced from the 2001 offering. Definitely poised to be a spectacular wine.
