Color: Purple.
Aroma: Dark Fruits. Blackberry. Black Currant.
Flavor: Dark Fruits. Blackberry. Black Currant.
Profile: Crisp Acidity. Unbalanced. Complex. Smooth Mouthfeel. Rich Extracted Body. Moderate Heavy Tannin. Long Finish.
More fruit-forward than the 2001 Diamond Creek the 2002s are across the board more approachable at an earlier age. The Volcanic Hill vineyard wine is a deeply extracted, robust wine. Aromas and flavors of simple dark and red fruits, with no one characteristic that overpowers the next. Again caught a bit of a medicinal flavor in the aftertaste, pulling the score down slightly.
