Color: Opaque Purple.
Aroma: Dark Fruits. Earthy.
Flavor: Dark Fruits. Licorice. Black Currant. Earthy.
Profile: Unbalanced. Complex. Viscous Mouthfeel. Rich Body. Moderate Tannin. Long Finish.
Although I should not have tapped into the 2001 La Jota's this soon, I was eager to taste this highly touted vintage from a winery that used to produce some of Napa's top wines. Since its sale by Bill and Joan Smith to Markham Vineyards, however, I have not been particularly impressed with the wines. Less tannic than I expected for a Howell Mountain cab, this bottle seems to possess potential, but came up short on its overall balance. Deep, dark and brooding... but slightly disjointed at this stage.
