1978 Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou (France / Bordeaux / St-Julien )   Reviewed by: aapalileo Rated: 96 pts   What a great nose this wine had. The fruit was still there, but mostly faint dried currants and flowers. The tannins were very soft, virtually almost non-existent, giving way to more ethereal maturation characters. The wine was mostly pure tertiary flavors, with truffles, earth, dust, leather, mushrooms, cedar and tobacco leaves. Very complex. Lean and focused. A wine so gentle on the palate. A great wine! Jo said this was a very elegant wine. I couldn't agree more. This is the oldest wine we've both had thus far.
