May be a bad bottle but I see no reason to try this again.

|
| COMMENTS: |
(single blind): Garnet, brick rim, clear, medium tears. Oxydized liquorice in the nose. Medium body, bit tannin and acidity based, low fruit, bit empty. Long aftertaste, some tannins and lots of acidity. Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for nose + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 87.
This was one of several rather disappointing bottles in this 1982 Bordeaux tasting in Nov 2003. The risc of bottle variation seems to grow exponentially with the age of the (especially standard format) bottle. The wine was decanted about 4 hours before the tasting for an hour and then refilled in the bottle and recorked - this did not work here, it seems better to avoid decanting this wine and other wines friom this vintage at all.

(not blind): Medium garnet, light rim, brilliant. Nose slightly oxidized, dark fruit, bit alcoholic. Medium body, flat attack, spiky acidity in the middle, aftertaste unpleasant bitter with artificial acidity on the tip of the tongue. Without food nearly undrinkable - did I really have to wait this long to drink this wine? Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 15 for taste + 5 for overall = total score of 85.

|
| COMMENTS: |
(not blind): Opaque ruby, dense tears, tints the glass. Nose more of a CdP than of a Hermitage but nice and powerful. Full body, solid acidity, powerful fruit, nice tannins, well balanced. Long finish, rather silky. Still a bit too powerful to be enjoyed without reservation but will be may be great in 5-10 years. But already a perfect match for a hefty dish of roasted stuffed goose with red cabbage (preferrable cooked with the same wine) and potato dumplings. Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 93.

I don't know excactly the components of the cuvee but Blaufrankisch should be dominating. Nice effort (I hope without concentrator).
