If '99 Grange is 100, than this is a 99 for $150 less... After I swallowed all I could think was velvet...it was so smooth. I could not believe it! The 1999 Penfolds Grange is amazing, but this isn't far off, and at a fraction of the price - you can get the Balmoral for under $30 if you search around. It had a bouquet that can fill a room. The color and smell beg you to drink it. A perfect blend of intense fruit and tannins this wine will make any dinner perfect! And the finish...it is unbelievable...you have to try it. You will not be disappointed!
Aging note - it is pretty heavily bodied and should stand up for ten or so years...but it sure tastes good now... :-)

If you have the money, buy this wine...it is the best I have ever tasted!... I was lucky enough to taste this at a private event in Chicago before its release. It is the best wine I have ever had, and the highest wine rating I have given. I do not know if I have had the perfect wine yet, but this is what I compare against...
You look at it and the color just looks rich. You can smell the gripping aroma from feet away as soon as you open the bottle, but don't give in, let it breathe. The flavors are intense and explode in your mouth. They linger and develop, only leading to one of the longest finishes I have ever experienced...
This wine will age for probably 20 years. It is so good, it would be hard to not drink it today, but it may only get better...time will tell...

COMMENTS:
Dark garnet/light ruby, very clear, dense tears. Soft multilayered nose, honey comb, sweet red fruit. Medium body, very fine and mature sweet red fruit, mineral tone, very well balanced, soft tannins, hint of finesse. Long finish, silky and same time velvety tannins, ends with decent sweet red fruit. This wine is perfect to drink now.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 15 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 95.
Not blind. Not decanted, but bottle one day open. Small ISO standard tasting glass. Bottle count reduced by one.

COMMENTS:
Brilliant light ruby, light rim, dense tears, some fine sediment. Rather mature nose, soft sweet dark and red fruit, not oxidized but not far from it, maybe some spices. Nicely stuffed body, nice red fruit, slightly furry like peach skin, soft fruity acidity and very soft tannins, very well balanced. Good finish, velvety tannins and bit of red fruit in the long aftertaste. Versatile with food. Excellent bottle, ready for drinking, but will hold or even develop for another 10-15 years.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 9 for overall = total score of 95.
Not blind. Decanted 2 hours before drinking. Small ISO standard tasting glass. Bottle count reduced by one.

Sampled 12/31/04. The wine opens with an acidic bite that is not too harsh and quickly gives way to black currant fruit that starts to turn sweet. Before you know it a surprising and pleasant chocolate finish sneaks up on you like a nice dessert after a main course.

Sampled 12/31/04. Decanted for 4.5 hours, but might have required 4.5 days. This incredibly young wine that is nearly black needs another 5 to 10 years before another bottle is opened. It never opened up and only the hints of its highly extracted fruit could be discerned. You know this wine is going to be incedible, but patience is required.

COMMENTS:
Ohh yes. This is what Chardonnay was meant to taste like. Straw colored with a tinge of pale gold. Slightly honeyed nose, layered with red apple, melon and toasted nuts. Aromas continued to develop and evolve over the course of the meal. Texture on the palate was rich and full but still with a nice zap of acidity. Some ripe stone fruit on the attack, well integrated oak and alcohol make for a long slow finish with some honey blended with vanilla. Elegance in a glass.

This is one of the best wines I have ever tasted. As expected, it is extremely concentrated and blew my doors off, but it has extraordinary integrity - the best I have ever tasted for a Zin. Some of the more recent vintages have been good - but this was the best. I hear 2002 is supposed to be close.

COMMENTS:
Expressive and seductive are the first words that come to mind when you place your nose in the glass. Instantly, you know that the experience will transcend the classic Napa Cabernet and enter into the realm of a wine to remember.
All of the elements, fruit, acid, tannins are in harmony. The mouthfeel is smooth, the finish penatrating and lingering. A chorus of aromas and flavors enrich the senses...currants, cedar, eucalyptus, mint, cherries, tobacco, tar, and coffee to name a few.
The 94 Heitz Trailside is certainly at it's peak, but will last for years to come.

Aromas of banana bread pudding with hints of cinnamon followed by super eucalycorish dark chocolearthious deep forestraisoned black friutacious funk.
Even at 10 years from vintage, we decanted the wine for several hours before the wine shared it's elegance and power as one. The 95 Allegrini Amarone will continue to age beautifully for many years.

COMMENTS:
A classic example of a Bordeaux blend, the 2002 Claret possesses an inky/blue/purple color as well as a fabulous perfume of graphite, creme de cassis, smoke, and licorice. It hits the palate with a full-bodied, unctuous texture, tremendous purity, and moderately high tannin in the 40+ second finish. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2018.

COMMENTS:
Oh my god. This wine is my 2005 best wine.Even if it's drunk in 2006. I have never put a such cote (95%) but i can do in another way. Every sips (gulps)was a intense moment of pleasure. I had the chance to buy three bottles at 40 $ each. It was the year's bargain, a really good deal.. Go on : * smoke-cured cold italian jam, rapsberries flavors * smoke-cured cold italian jam aromas, slightly rapsberries aromas, lightly pepper and a lot of other light herbal or spiced aromas (like cloves) that i have not the capacity to describe. * Medium to full body and a really perfect balance. * Not heavy like a lot of new world wines (really good indeed)very airy spirit. You absolutly not feel the 14% alcoohol. Exceptionnal. * Not massive lenght. I say medium (+) lenght but so enjoyable wine.
So i risk a 95% because it is Outstanding and it's certainly in the beginning of a absolute best wine scale.
I don' recommand you this wine. I keep it for me.

COMMENTS:
Tasted with Blaine and Paula at their cabin Sept. 2, 06 along with Chateaus Caillou, Doisy Vedrines and d'Arche. All were from half bottle. All were very fresh and vibrant. However, the d'Arche lacked complexity and was not up to the Caillou which we tasted with it. The Climens had much greater length and cut than the Doisy Vedrines but the Caillou was close to the Doisy Vedrines in overall quality and impression. I'd put the d'Arche at about 89 and the other two at about 93.

This is a very well crafted wine! Dark Ruby, very intense color. The nose is very aromatic, with ripe blackberries, plums, cherries, with traces of tobacco, and cedar. On the palate it is supple, and silky smooth. Medium to full bodied. The tannins are rather subtle, well integrated with the acids that the overall effect is a very harmonious and extremely well balanced wine. The finish is long. Decant for 30 minutes.

This bright white wine has a rich medium golden-yellow colour. The nose is effusive with an expressive pleasant smell of citrus, strong honey and spicies. In mouth, this gorgeous, light and fruity wine has a soft attack, a supple and fruity evolution (We feel all the aromas in the mouth especially muscat)and fresh finish with honey taste. It's a nice, fruity well-balanced sweet white wine.
