2006 Bouchard Pere et Fils - Bouchard - Les vignes de l'enfant Jesus
(France / Burgundy / Bourgogne)
ALCOHOL: 13.0%
RATED: 06/02/2010
COMMENTS: This wine has a very clear and lght color, this is the caracteristic of this type of wine (Pinot Noir). It has a light cherry red color.
When you smell it, you have a very pleasant expressive smell. In fact, you have some fragances of fruits above all cherries (griotte), it smells a little bit like the Kriek (Cheery Beer)! There is also spices, coffee aromas. You can smell a special attack with a strong acidity at the beginning, a little bit aggresive but after, it's very fruity, rich and there is a full-bodied evolution with lots of cherry taste.
This wine stays very long time in mouth which is very pleasant.
We can note that you can use the Pinot noir grape to make Champagne !

It is not a well-structured wine, we don't have tannins in the back.
This wine is very good to drink with poultry.

In mouth, this very pleasant light and fruity bodied wine has a fruity attack. Due to the pH there is a balance between sweetness and freshness. At the end, it keeps spicy taste at the back of the mouth and this wine stays long time in the mouth. NV Krug - Grand Cuvee
(France / Champagne)
ALCOHOL: 12.0%
RATED: 08/27/2004
COLOR: Golden.
AROMA: Yeast. Citrus. Nutty. Woody.
FLAVOR: Yeast. Citrus. Nutty.
PROFILE: Crisp Acidity. Complex. Effervescent Mouthfeel. Rich Body. Long Finish.
COMMENTS: Krug is still by far my favorite champagne. This bottle was absolutely exquisite, with tons of creamy nuttiness to balance out a tart citrus finish. The aroma is hardly contained by the glass, and bursts with yeast and nuttiness. Interestingly, I found this 750mL to be less carmelized and more fruity than a recent 375 mL from this producer. I would receommend drinking from the half bottle if that aged, toffee flavor is what you prefer. The wine from a 750mL is different but equally spectacular.

NV Krug - Grand Cuvee
(France / Champagne)
ALCOHOL: 12.0%
RATED: 08/27/2004
COLOR: Amber.
AROMA: Yeast. Toast. Nutty.
FLAVOR: Cream. Citrus. Nutty. Beer.
PROFILE: Tart. Crisp Acidity. Complex. Effervescent Mouthfeel. Rich Body. Long Finish.
COMMENTS: Ligther than a previous bottle of Krug, this is more youthful and expressive. The nose and flavors are crisp, nutty, and yeasty. Once again I found a distinct beer flavor that I associate with Krug. An impregnating aftertaste that lasts for several minutes and is tart on the back of the palate. Although this is a fabulous bottle of wine, I suggest giving the NV Krug some more time in the cellar. It will develop a deeper color, with richer toffee flavors.

1995 Dalla Valle Cabernet Sauvignon
(USA / California / Napa)
ALCOHOL: 13.5%
RATED: 02/21/2003
COLOR: Brick Red.
AROMA: Spice. Smoky. Game.
FLAVOR: Dark Fruits. Black Currant. Savory. Dusty.
PROFILE: Crisp Acidity. Balanced. Complex. Rich Voluminous Full Bodied Body. Moderate Tannin. Long Finish.
COMMENTS: A phenomenal wine from Dalla Valle, it seems to be peaking perfectly right now. The lush tannins are well integrated with just the right amount of dark dusty fruit to balance the wine. The nose hints at spiciness and then gives way to deeper, savory aromas of smoked meat. The finish is so long and winding that you are torn between taking another sip and relishing the taste in the back of your mouth. Fabulous!

2001 Sea Smoke Pinot Noir - Southing
(USA / California / Santa Barbara / Santa Rita Hills)
ALCOHOL: 14.4%

COLOR: Red Purple.
AROMA: Dark Fruits. Smoky.
FLAVOR: Dark Fruits. Smoky. Clove. Blackberry.
PROFILE: Crisp Acidity. Balanced. Rich Body. Moderate Tannin. Long Finish.
COMMENTS: This is my favorite Pinot Noir of all time! Although, to be fair, this wine is constructed much more in the style of a Cabernet, with Tannins featuring prominently and a complex structure. A bit of smoke is hinted at both on the nose and in the mouth, making this a great food wine. All Sea Smoke wines are great, but this is truly remarkable.

PROFILE: Crisp Acidity. Balanced. Voluminous Extracted Full Bodied Body. Moderate Tannin. Long Finish.
COMMENTS: There is no question that this is the most interesting non-riesling white wine that I've ever had. A very complex nose with pear and citrus, including grapefuit. Long and complex finish. Enjoyed this at Boulevard in SF so the price is off a wine list.

1991 Fonsalette - Cuvee Syrah
(France / Rhone / Northern Rhone / Cotes du Rhone)
RATED: 02/01/2003
COMMENTS: Black purple, dense tears, tints the glass. Heavy dark fruit in the nose. Full body, intense primary raspberry fruit, heavy but well balanced tannins and acidity - nearly a wine concentrate. Score: 50 + 5 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 95.

Some days ago I received delivery of the first of my two Bordeaux 2000 subscriptions and I decided to pop a bottle today to check the hype. I made a small blind tasting with the Leoville Barton and an Austrian red named "In Signo Leonis", an international style cuvee vintage 2000 from a producer named Bayer as second wine. The Fonsalette was the wine I used for cooking - and it was clearly the wine of the evening.
