2006 Duckhorn
Merlot
(USA / California / Napa)

|
| COMMENTS: |
Ruby, with hints of purple, with very thick & sticky legs that. Aromas of bell pepper and other green veggies, licorice, varnish, cedar, cola and plum. However, this wine was very hot, both on the nose and on the palate. You really had to pierce through the alcohol to smell and taste the essence of the wine. On the palate, it was very short; what lingers is the alcohol, streaking through the throat.Very firm and austere, juicy, albeit off in structure.

An awesome wine, especially when considering the price. It is pure Aussie shiraz, brimming with dark fruit aromas and jammy taste. It is somewhat thick in the mouth, and has the tannin to age gracefully over the next few years. Cellar it, if you can resist it.

This bright red purple wine has a medium cherry color. We can smell spicies, pepper aromas. It has a fresh attack with green vegetables aromas. Its evolution is strong, it becomes more and more fruity, especially with fruit jam aromas. This rich full bodied wine has a complex bouquet and needs to be opened before consumption to appreciate all its aromas and flavors. It could be perfect with chicken duck or white meat.

This cherry black colored wine, AOC Moulis en Medoc appellation, has strong aromas like oak wood, coffee, spicies. It has a light attack with a strong evolution and a long complex finish. We can feel tannins on the back of the tongue which give it some astringent mouthfeeling. This wine would be good with T-bone or rib steak but not with chicken or white meat otherwise tannins would became bitterness.

Wine club
winemaker's notes:
Bright crimson with some purple tints. Distinctive and commanding nose with a strong berry-like aroma. An abundance of ripe fruit. The principal flavor is of berry-like shiraz but hints of black pepper, with rich distinct oak. The length of palate shows strong, rich berry and cassis cabernet sauvignon character. Due to the nature of the stunning 98 vintage, with its concentration of flavor and berry, the blend of area and varieties were modified (on previous vintages) to highlight the exciting nature in Coonawarra.

This wine has a clear pale yellow color. He has an expressive and plaisant smell of litchi, rose and muscat. In mouth, this light and fruity wine has a round supple attack, is balanced with a refreshing and fruit explosion (licorice and violet taste). After this fruity evolution, he has a medium length finish. This Cave de Turckheim Gewurztraminer is exactly what we can aspect from a Gewurztraminer: a plaisant, fruity easy to drink wine.

This old wine has a ruby/cherry red color with a light tinge because of its age. He has an expressive vanilla nose, with a light smoky smell and a slight mushroom aroma. This medium body wine has a crispy attack (because of its age: 6 years), a slight pleasant velvety evolution in the mouth, with taste of butter, oak with a mushroom smoky finish. He has a tannic finish but not for a long time.
