Rich and biscuity on the nose. Mature citrus up front on the palate, yeast and bread through the middle, and creamy vanilla on the finish. A serious, full bodied, heavy duty champagne without overdoing it on the yeastiness. Amazingly balanced. One of the best champagnes I've ever tasted. Ever.
P.S. - Chartogne-Taillet disgorges their Tete de Cuvee just prior to shipping. The last time I tasted it (12/31/04) the bottle had been disgorged January, 2004.

Massive tannic structure holds this monolithic, incredibly complex monster of a red together. It's drinking nicely now after a good thirty to fourty minutes in a decanter (and even better the next day), but it will continue to mature for the next five years or so. Once it opens, it's all about chocolate covered cherries on the palate. This is a masterpiece in the making. Puts any Barolo, costing twice as much, (that I've ever had) to shame.

COMMENTS:
A lean and compact wine still, this Chardonnay meets and exceeds with bracing acidity and citrus fruits on the palette. If ever there were a chard. that is the flipside of the typical California paradigm it's Stony Hill. One of Napa's most ageworthy whites, I expect cellaring well into 2010. Enjoy with shucked oysters, Seared scallops, or lean white fish without the adulterations of cream or butter.

Simply Amazing! The perfume on this bottle was able to make it's way across the room after just opening. Beautiful cherry, strawberry and rasberry aromas lead to a slightly more complex earth and hay tones. Drinking this Calera is liquid silk! Smooth and sleek, it coats your mouth with layers of red fruit, chocolate and truffles. The finish is smooth and long taking 2-3 minutes. Perfect balance of fruit, acidity and tannins make this an excellent food compliment. Enjoy over the next 3-5 years.
Cheers!

A year ago it would take an hour or so for this one to open Up (while it's partner ther 2002 took the show right away!) This one has taken some time to open up, but now it dose quickly! The nose is superior! this is an extracted ZIN but not "Over the top"!The balance of fruit & tannins are melody of a classic Tuscan-Style meal time beverage! Wow! It is great now & it may improve ro a year or so but It GREAT now!

COMMENTS:
We had this wine with authentic Greek cuisine at Kyma in Atlanta. I thought it might work well with the spicy Argentinean and was pleasantly surprised. Although somewhat young, after an hour in the bottle, this beautifully structured wine opened up completely. A spicy nose combined with plums and berries, finishing long and sleek. It wasn't overly fruity, nor did the tannins get in the way. I went out and bought four more bottles the following week; this Clos Apalta vintage will continue to improve over the next 5-8 years.

COMMENTS:
Over Valentine's day, we enjoyed a bottle of this versatile Cabernet at Tamarind Thai restaurant in Atlanta with Chilean Sea Bass and Chicken Massaman. I'm beginning to believe that the Silver Oak 'Napa' Cabs NEED the extra 5-8 years of bottle time in order to truly show their colors. Decanting wasn't necessary and the floral nose familiar to Silver Oak fans was there, augmented by something deeper and friendlier. One taste and I knew the wait to drink this one was worth it. As dependable as SO usually is, there were sweeter berry flavors, a smooth, balanced structure and a cleaner finish than usual. The cherries, plums and oak staples in this wine are as ripe and open as ever. Very little notice of tannins by the second glass. I'm going to start buying magnums of this stuff.

We had this with dinner at South City Kitchen in Atlanta last night and I couldn't be more pleased with our selection. The nose was ripe red fruits and very inviting. Hints of cocoa and leather blended with gobs of cooked blue/blackberries anise and plums. One of the nicest reds I've had in awhile because of the smooth character; it wasn't too tannic and the texture was supple, not chewy. The finish was long and sweet. I'd guess that this will age for at least another eight years, but mine will be gone by then.

Light and bright ruby, fat tears, no sediment. Velvety nose, soft red fruit, earthy, mineral note. Medium body, soft fruity acidity, velvety tannins, very well balanced. Long finish, velvety tannins, slightly sweet fruity acidity in the end. Very elegant, on the border of being austere, but not yet. This is excellent.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 9 for overall = total score of 95.
Not blind. Not decanted. Small ISO standard tasting glass.

COMMENTS:
Brilliant purple, dense tears, tints the glass, very high viscosity. Very fine dark nose, multilayered, some toast, spices, cinnamon. Plump to full body, fine Vintage Port fruit, powerful acidity, decent soft tannins, well balanced, coriander, cinnamon. Velvety acidity in the aftertaste, fine fruit. Good match with simple food like white bread with butter and fresh cut green coriander or some cookies with cinnamon. Excellent value. Exciting question how this wine will show with some age.
Score: 50 + 5 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 95.
Not blind. Decanted shortly before tasting. Glass&Co Syrah type glass.

We had this with an amazing fettucini carbonara and grilled mushroom pizza at Floataway Cafe last night. The nose at first was a little meaty; I couldn't quite pin down what we were smelling, but that dissipated after about 5 minutes. After an hour, the tannin was completely integrated, and much less distracting. This spicy, almost tangy red went very well with dinner, but would drink very well by itself. The Sangiovese really comes through with big red berries and fruit, and the Cab keeps it even. The waiter was so impressed with how it was drinking for an '02 that he suggested to the manager that they should carry it. A nice long 45+ second finish made for a really enjoyable glass. Drink now or hold for up to 10 years.

Drank a bottle of this in late February of 04. A nice lemon-yellow color. Rich in the mouth, while very "clean" and free of strong wood or "butter," a nice amount if mineral on the tongue and in the finish. Aromas of citrus. Clearly one of the top Chardonnay's I've had out of California, I can't agree 100% with the huge 98 rating that Parker gave it. In a tasting group of 4, the other 3 were surprised it had such a rating and reputation, and generally the ground gave it ratings from 93-95. I will say the wine opened up a great deal after sometime in the glass, and warmed slightly.

Tasted on 9.7.04 against a 2002 Marquis Philips Integrity during a 5 course meal that was paired for the two of them. At first I was concerned that the Integrity with it's 99 rating, would just blow the Lokoya out of the water. It did not happen, not at all! The Lokoya is a great great wine, very complex, with well integrated tannins, loads of spice, with a long smooth finish of peppers. Very rich.
Enjoy!

Very smooth, full bodied, with dark black cherry notes, and a 60 second finish.
Drinking well now, but seems like it'll continue to better with more cellaring.
