2002 Linne Calodo Syrah - Amnesia
(USA / California / San Luis Obispo / Paso Robles)
RATED: 04/12/2005
COMMENTS: This wine rocks. I really love what winemaker Matt what's-his-name is doing out there with syrah and zin blends. Visited the winery last summer and picked up a few things, none have disappointed. Wines are pricey, but well worth it if you can find them. Lot's over finesse, but nice concentration and power too.

1989 Pommery - Cuvee Louise
(France / Champagne)
RATED: 03/17/2005
COMMENTS: Prestige cuvee from Pommery and it showed pretty well, perhaps a little bit over the hill or starting to decline. 1989 just doesn't have the gas to go the distance like '88 or '90. Secondary fruit was coming through, acidity was still nice and sharp. Not overly toasty, but some interesting nuttiness to it.

1999 Prieur Brunet - Volnay-Santenots 1er Cru
(France / Burgundy / Cote de Beaune / Volnay)
ALCOHOL: 13.5%
RATED: 08/27/2005
COMMENTS: I'm not sure this is actually imported into the US, was a gift from an French negociant. Basically it's a Meursault rouge, from northern end of the commune. Click here for more info. Was perhaps served too cold as it seemed rather closed and short for a 1999 Beaune red. Not much of the expected voluptous/earthy fruit.

2002 Turley Zinfandel - Presenti
(USA / California / San Luis Obispo / Paso Robles)
ALCOHOL: 16.0%
RATED: 08/01/2005
COMMENTS: Visited the winery last summer. People there were complete jerks and I wished I hadn't bought this bottle. Had it with some barbecue and it was nasty, alcohol came way up and fruit couldn't stand up to the food. Finished the bottle off a little later on it's own and it really was delicious.

1999 Domaine Armand Rousseau - Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
(France / Burgundy / Cote de Nuits / Gevrey-Chambertin)
ALCOHOL: 13.0%
RATED: 09/09/2005
COLOR: Tile Red.
AROMA: Dark Fruits. Strawberry. Barnyard.
FLAVOR: Oak. Hazelnut. Strawberry. Blackberry. Cinnamon. Truffles. Barnyard.
PROFILE: Crisp Acidity. Balanced. Complex. Smooth Mouthfeel. Medium Body. Light Tannin. Medium Finish.
COMMENTS: Excellent, very satisfying bottle of wine from a top-notch producer. Potential for further improvement and mellowing out, but not a long-haul library wine. 1999 vintage shows its elegance and grace, not powerful and hugely long-lived.

RATED: 06/02/2010
COLOR: Clear Yellow.
AROMA: Citrus. Lemon.
FLAVOR: Apple. Lemon. cider.
PROFILE: Crisp Acidity. Effervescent Mouthfeel. Medium Body. Medium Finish.
COMMENTS: This is a very pleasant wine of a pale golden yellow color. A slight cheese aroma can be smelt at the begining and in mouth, one can taste lemon, cider and ripe apple flavours. This wine's light lively attack, which is strong yet not agressive, and it's distinct freshness make a refreshing and easy to drink wine.

2007 Claude Papin - Beaulieu - Roinieres
(France / Loire Valley / Anjour-Saumur / Coteaux du Layon)
RATED: 06/02/2010
COLOR: Golden.
AROMA: Honey. Fig. Jam. white flowers.
FLAVOR: Pineapple. Honey.
PROFILE: Sweet. Balanced. Rich Body. Long Finish.
COMMENTS: This Coteaux du Layon wine is an extremely complex blend of sweet pleasant flavours that remind us of summer and sunshine. It is of a bright and brilliant golden color, pretty much recalling the honey of its aroma and flavour. As well as honey, one can also smell cristallised exotic fruits such as mango and pineapple and maybe even a hint of jasmin. In mouth, it tastes of honey and pineapple once again. This wine is also very well balanced between sweetness and freshness. It is mellow, rich and long in mouth, and is one of the best wines I ever tasted!

2008 Tapiz Chardonnay
(Argentina / Mendoza / Valle de Uco)
ALCOHOL: 14.0%
RATED: 06/02/2010
COLOR: Clear Yellow.
AROMA: Citrus. Peach.
FLAVOR: Peach.
PROFILE: Crisp Acidity. Balanced. Alcoholic Mouthfeel. Medium Body. Medium Finish.
COMMENTS: First of all, it was very unusual for me taste a foreign wine. However, I was suprised to discover that I liked this wine better than the previous Chadonnay I tasted, a french St Aubin 2005. This wine is the same pale yellow as the french one but its peach and lemon aromas and flavours are much more pleasant from my point of view than those of pepper and caramel I experienced when tasting the St Aubin. This wine therefore has a nice fruity taste and is perfectly balanced between livelyness and mellowness, roundness and freshness. It has, however, a quite alcoholic mouthfeel which produces a slight heating sensation in the mouth.

2008 Domaine Mittnacht Gewurztraminer - Biologique, "Terre d'etoile"
(France / Alsace)
RATED: 06/02/2010
COLOR: Clear Yellow.
AROMA: Pepper. Rose Petals. Pineapple. Citrus. Lychee. mango.
FLAVOR: Licorice. Lychee.
PROFILE: Balanced. Smooth Mouthfeel. Medium Body. Long Finish.
COMMENTS: This gewurztraminer is definatly a rich, fruity wine which's aroma is an explosion of exotic fruits (litchi, passion fruit, pineapple and mangoes), of flowers and spices. In mouth, what stands out most of all in my opinion is the blend of lychee and liquorice flavours. Its taste is well balanced between sweetness, freshness and fruitiness, and it is medium bodied with a smooth fruity attack. Despite its pale yellow color, this wine is an extremely complex mix of aromas and flavours.

2006 Chateau Grand Peyruchet - Semillon 90%, Sauvignon 10%
(France / Bordeaux / Loupiac)
RATED: 06/02/2010
COLOR: Golden.
AROMA: Honey. Chocolate.
PROFILE: Sweet. Bitter. Balanced. Rich Body. Long Finish.
COMMENTS: Loupiac wine is of a beautiful golden color with an exotic and cristalised fruit aroma. The scent of this wine is also of honey and in my opinion of chocolate as well. As for its taste, it reminds me of honey and spices and maple sirup. There is also a certain balance between the sweetness and the bitterness in this wine, especialy at the end for the finish is quite long.

AROMA: Tobacco. Black Currant. Raisin. Caramel.

PROFILE: Sweet. Balanced. Smooth Mouthfeel. Rich Voluminous Body. Moderate Tannin. Medium Finish.
COMMENTS: This wine has aged well and has a distinct, port-like flavor without the heavy sweetness charateristic of true dessert wines. It makes a good after-dinner wine and drinks well when consumed in smaller quantities. The wine has distinct syrup-like characteristics.

It is great now, but can be consumed in 1-2 years, as well...
