COMMENTS:
When the cork was pulled on this bottles, the entire room filled with a rich bouquet of rose petals.
Definitely an infant in terms of its development, it was too hard to pass up and was drinking nicely after two hours in the decanter.
What can one say about a wine of this caliber? I don't know if I could do it justice but it almost evoked an emotional response. Simply a perfect wine with an intense concentration of black and red fruits revealing themselves layer after layer showing blackberry, red raspberry, black cherry, cinnamon....you name it, it was there. The sweet perfume keeps reeling you in for more. Speaking of which, I wish I had more. This is one of the greatest wines I have had the privledge to experience! Waiting another twenty years sure would be nice but who can wait that long?

COMMENTS:
When you think fruit bombs, you think Australia and Napa. Now take the best fruit bombs you've had from those locations and add ten layers of complexity and sophistication and you've got the 1990 Margaux. This and the 1989 Haut Brion have a number of similarities, and it's no surprise they both get the big points.

Even in 2004, this incredibly huge and complex beauty takes between 14 and 20 hours to decant - but it's worth the wait (assuming you do not have the patience to wait until sometime after 2020 to open it). A true 100-year wine. I think this wine would make most people's top 10 Bordeauxs since 1960.

Sampled 12/31/04. After decanting for a couple hours, this Merlot dominated wine started opening up with ripe blueberries and blackberries, spice, and earthtones constantly revolving on themselves for a complex and highly entertaining wine that any wine lover can appreciate and savor. For those wine drinkers that don`t understand what layering and complexity mean, this wine is the easy exemplar to learn from.

COMMENTS:
This sweet white wine is produced by my family in Loupiac, in Gironde. This brillant and very pleasant white wine has a golden yellow color. It has very caracteristic flavours of quince jam, honey, pineapple. On the mouth, it has sweet taste, sweet attack. It has a good balance between sweetness, bitterness and other taste flavours. On the back of the mouth, we can feel bitterness and sweetness, which give the lenght of the wine. It's a pleasant bitterness. At the end, we feel spicy. It is a very very pleasant white wine. The sweet wine of Loupiac is very rich in sugars, and you shall appreciate it all the more during the appetizer or in entrance with some foie gras, some Roquefort or smoked salmon.

I think that this wine is probably made from a wide range of grape variety. When you look at it, you can see a light golden yellow colour. This wine has fine smells of honey and cristallized fruits. It's a medium bodied wine which brings a refreshing feeling at the beginning, a quite lively evolution and at the end, a balance between sweetness, fruitiness and bitterness can be noticed.

This brilliant wine has a medium cherry red colour, it has expressive smells of oak wood and black fruit's jam. In mouth, this harmonious wine has a great fruitiness attack and then a nice full long evolution. It is full bodied. Known as a very elegant and long wine, you keep it long time in mouth. It's a quite expensive wine.

This old wine has a brick red colour, with mushroom and wood odours. In mouth, this pleasant wine has fruity taste. It is very well balanced between medium-bodied and full-bodied. It has a full nice round evolution and it is very elegant with a good structure. This wine would be perfect after a good meal, to enjoy cheese...

The utmost pure expression of the pinot noir grape. Not a single trace of heaviness. Elegant, finess, and pure. Great complexity but in a very subtle sense. Still very youthful and very well balanced with the acidity as the lead to explore this delicate and intricate burgundy. One of my best wine experience.

I have had different vintages of La Tache including some great vintages but none hit me like the 1987. Perhaps I was drinking it at its prime or there are other external factors that influences my appreication. That's why I never like rating wine under a fixed scoring system because there are just way too many factors that may influence people's judgement. But at that time, environment and condition, this is a perfect wine. Simply speaking, it is a benchmark of burgundy. Words won't do it justice so I have to quote from Clive Coates "...sing like a nightingale, shine forth like a sapphire, intrigue like the most complex of chess problems, and seduce like the first kiss of someone you are just about to fall in love with...it can inspire like a great orator, satisfy like a most subtle of three-star meals, and leave you at peace at the end like the slow movement of a Mozart piano concerto...the wine is complex but not puzzling, profound but not didactic, perfect but not intimidating, and magnificent but never toher than friendly"

Well, it has been written and spoken and dreamt about. Yes, no doubt it is one of the best bordeaux I have ever had. Full, complex yet balance and well structured. The range of complexity is mind blogging, the richness and concentration surpassed some of the fullest bodied Aussie Shiraz and California Cab. Extra long finish that is both classic and divine.

What can say? The best wine I have ever had, I have no point of reference better than this. Color is deep purple with no sign of bricking. Explosive aromas of strawberry, cherry and red fruit; followed by flavors of strawberry, black current and graphite with tobacco and leather present during the long finish. An awesome wine at its' peak. Outstanding!

This wine has a deep golden yellow tint. Cȏteaux du Layon has fine smells of honey, fig and quince jam. In mouth, this rich wine has a round, velvety and smooth attack with a long, creamy finish. This sweet white wine is well balanced between sweetness, acidity and fruitiness. To conclude, it's a fresh, delicious accompaniment with dessert or spicy cuisines.

Fanucchi should be a cult wine! @ $50 it is a bargain because this knocks the socks off any of the big Zins from the best of the Big R's to Turly - I've tried them all & this one belongs on the Top. It is balanced & complex. It is very good now & improves with air. If you can leave some in the bottle for a few days it gets even better. Great now & will age 5 to 10 easily!

This is a truly amazing wine. Deep, dark, purple in color, with an amazing nose, and 45 second finish. One taster said "this wine has an afterburner!" I've had this twice now, first time in a blind tasting the 2001 Dead Arm, 2002 Shirvington, and 2001 Factor, the Run Rig beat them all! The second, open tasting, was against a 1994 Dominus (just for fun) with a 2 hour decant, and a 1996 E&E Black Pepper, again, the Rig came out on top. Still young, with great potential for the future.

The 2002 Integrity is my second favorite Shiraz of all time, only slightly nudged out by the 2001 Run Rig.
Inky purple in color, with a nose that smelled exactly like melted Currant Jelly! Taste of cassis and blackberries. Still young and tight, extended decant times help bring it around, but great potential for the future.

This wine, if you like sweet wines, is worth finding a 1/2 case and drinking some now and holding the rest for years to come. In the top 2 dessert wines I've tasted, EVER. Amazingly rich color, and a nose that you'll not forgot soon.

COMMENTS:
Sampled 12/31/03. We opened two pristine bottles of this wine (from different importers) and each was the same. Decanting time for the first tasting was well under an hour, and this wine neither got better nor worse with more time. The prodigious percentage of Cab Franc in Cheval does not come through and hit you in the face like so many California meritages do that are Cab Franc based (e.g. Viader, even it its best years). The wine is complex and dreamy smooth as the tannins have now completely softened. It's at its peak and you'd hate to waste $500+ bottle by sitting on it too many more years.

Sampled 2/14/82. I've had this excellent 2nd Growth wine at least once in each of the past four years and it has been wonderfully consistent. Spice with silky Merlot washing through and around the fruity Cab Franc, both of which offset and balance the powerful Cab Sauv. This wine is elegant and big at the same time. I was never convinced it was a 100 point wine, but I could never give it a 98 point rating either. This time, wine only took about 15 to 20 minutes to open up which is about 30 minutes less than it took 4 years ago, but it did not drop off at any point during the dinner. At this rate, the wine should be nearing it's peak in about 4 to 6 years.

Medium to dark reddish-purple, some bricking. Lovely complex nose of black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, meat, violet/lavender, chocolate, mint, undergrowth, virginal choirboy flesh, leather, charred oak, and licorice. Medium to full body. Semi-sweet to semi-dry. Soft tannins. Long finish. What can I say? It's a cerebral, intellectual experience, very soft and elegant. I think I'd have liked this to the tune of a 100 if I'd had it 5 years ago (a little more tannic grip would be ideal). I'm just glad I had an opporunity to sample this before its (and my!) lifetime was over.

Sampled 12/31/04. If the principal that the best cheeses are the smelliest applies to wine, this is true 100 pointer. The nose comes straight from a stable - wet saddle leather, the horse`s feed bucket, a bit of the horse in there too. You will never forget this wine for its nose alone. Super extracted, sweet, fat, layered red and black fruits with low acid and some minerals underneath on a long finish. Ready to drink now with only an hour decanting time.
