Striking acidity with incredible focus and intensity. Beautiful fruit purity and lovely minerality.No doubt the addition of young vine juice from grand cru sites has helped. A favourite SophieCarbonnea {ts '2011-10-13 00:00:00'} 2008 Guy Bocard - Bourgogne Blanc (83pts, $19) http://www.winedemocracy.com/TNResults.cfm/WineID=12536 Outstanding Bourgogne Blanc with Meursault characteristics, recolte from just outside the village. Bocard is a fascinating individual who embraces the modern methods, including machine picking and reduced amounts of new oak in his wine. He entertained us charmingly in his very grand front room with its enormous round table and wide selection of wines after we had rudely awoken him from a post lunch 'siesta'. This wine had a fabulous, deep colour which was alive with vitality, had some great matiere. Nice citrus nose, with lavender. Full bodied, and with a nice acidity. Good strong finish - very pleasing. steggs11 {ts '2011-04-30 00:00:00'} 1993 Domaine Bruno Clavelier - Aux Brulees - 1er Cru (79pts, $75) http://www.winedemocracy.com/TNResults.cfm/WineID=12523 This wine was purchased from the domaine to celebrate a reunion of burgundy lovers who had been at university in Dijon, Burgundy in 1992-3. Bruno Clavelier is a charming host and incredibly knowledgeable on the local geology and how it affects the wine. This one was probably produced before his time, and was struggling a bit in a blind tasting against wines that were in their prime. The colour had aged to a rusty orange but surprisingly there was still some fruit coming through on the nose together with earthier notes. A little bit tired on the palate with very dry tannins and a strong mineral/flinty note. Lots of cassis/myrtilles still coming through. Still pleasant to drink, but past its very significant pomp! steggs11 {ts '2011-05-01 00:00:00'} 2008 Domaine Francois Lamarche - Hautes Cotes de Nuits (82pts, $18) http://www.winedemocracy.com/TNResults.cfm/WineID=12519 Tasted at the domaine, beautiful surroundings and hosted by the grungy yet delightful Nicole. An unusual look for a vigneron, but she knows her stuff! Slightly uncomfortable tasting as there was limited stock available and a roaring fire at our backs in spite of the warm spring day! Good, deep colour, quite accessible on the nose, with memories of Wimbledon triggered by the powerful strawberry aromas. On the palette black cherries, and hints of blueberry. Good finesse on the finish. A great start at 10.30am at the beginning of a long day of tasting! steggs11 {ts '2011-04-29 00:00:00'} 2008 Bachelet-Ramonet - Les Morgeots - 1er Cru (77pts, $20) http://www.winedemocracy.com/TNResults.cfm/WineID=12516 Good deep colour Lovely red fruits on the nose - wild strawberries and raspberries. Very fine aromas, and a big bouquet for a CdeB red. Quite open for a relatively young wine. Slightly harsh tannins, but otherwise well balanced with a long finish with some savoury herb notes (thyme?). Great value for a 1er cru Burgundy, but slightly atypical. Thoroughly enjoyed drinking this. As an aside, the vigneron and his wife were pure comedy. Madame conducted the tasting, while Monsieur carried on about his business, but they carried on a running commentary of stories and comments about our tasting notes that made us all fall in love with this slightly irreverant couple. steggs11 {ts '2011-06-25 00:00:00'} 2008 Bachelet-Ramonet - N/A - N/A (87pts, $21) http://www.winedemocracy.com/TNResults.cfm/WineID=12513 2011 Tasting Notes: Typical Ch-M pale colour, very clean and fresh looking - well made Very open, lovely floral nose, lots of citrus - orange and lime medium to low oak Nice acidic 'zing' - very fresh, but rounded out by decent moelleux Vigneron told us that he doesn't agree with 100% new oak in vinification, and reserves a batch 'just for Parker and les Americains' that is 100%. For the rest of us, he uses 20-30% new oak for a more rounded taste. Compared to the 'superior' 2009 vintage this held up very well steggs11 {ts '2011-10-07 00:00:00'} 2003 Alpha Estate (95pts, $45) http://www.winedemocracy.com/TNResults.cfm/WineID=12512 superfluous, a wine to lean on.... cornelius {ts '2011-09-29 00:00:00'}
